Poyntz Lodge was established 150 years ago, in Hantsport, NS on March 15, 1867 by its namesake, Lt. Colonel James Poyntz, then Deputy Grand Master, GL of England and Brothers from Welsdord Lodge in Windsor. The first Worshipful Master was Judson B. Black. Initially established under dispensation from the Grand Lodge of England, Poyntz Lodge was granted a charter from the Grand Lodge of Nova Scotia on October 1, 1868 as Lodge No. 21, later renumbered as Lodge No. 44. The Lodge is currently in its 127’th year of operation (being in darkness for 24 years between August 6, 1896 and June 9, 1920). Poyntz Lodge was re-established in due and ancient form on March 4, 1920, and the Charter was restored by Grand Lodge on June 9, 1920. Poyntz Lodge has met continuously since that date at a number of locations in Hantsport between 1867 and 1881. The Lodge moved to the upper floor of the “Union Hall”, meeting there for many years before moving to its present location at the Hants Border Community Hall in the early 1990’s. Poyntz Lodge currently has 33 members and meets on the first Thursday of each month, except in July and August
